Abstract:  We consider finite element methods  for a class of semilinear elliptic equations with additive spatial noise. A key component of our numerical methods is spectral expansions for the spatial noise including white noise and fractional white noise. Taking a proper truncation of the spectral approximation, we prove optimal strong convergence order of the finite element approximation. We also discuss the weak convergence of the considered numerical methods. Numerical results confirm our prediction for one- and two-dimensional elliptic problems.

   Speaker Introduction张中强为美国WPI助理教授。他的研究兴趣包括随机和积分微分方程数值解及其应用。于2014年加入WPI前,他分别于2011年在上海大学和2014年在布朗大学应用数学系获得博士学位。目前,他和布朗大学George Karniadais教授合作已出版随机偏微分方程数值解专著一本。
